All Residents should own it

The book is very helpful from basics to advanced topics. This book can serve as the only book needed for IR training in residency and oral boards preparation for radiology residents. Has individual chapters on puncture of IJ, Subclavian v, femoral v, femoral a, brachial a etc. Has individual chapters on all interventional procedures commonly performed in private practice hospitals and most of the IR procedures performed in University hospitals. All authors are fellowship trained at prestigious institutions and are currently practicing IR and Neuroradiology at academic centers. Yes, Kandarpa's book is excellent and covers a some info not in the pocket radiologist book. However, Kandarpa's book does not have any radiographs or color illustrations and tends to have long chapters from which it is more time consuming to get the scoop on focused issues such as how to perform a cerebral arteriogram, how to puncture the RIJ and LIJ, how to quickly drain an abcess or place a nephrostomy, how to perform an epidural steroid injection etc. Also the coverage of venous access and neuroradiology topics is much more thorough in the pocket radiologist book than in Kandarpa's. The pocket radiologist book provides step by step advice to guide physicians for performing procedures quickly and safely.

100 chapters. Each chapter focuses on a specific procedure so you can skim it night before or immediately prior to doing procedure. Chapter format is key facts, indications/contraindications, preprocedure, procedure technique, complications, postprocedure management. Covers venous access, arterial, GU, neuro spine, pain management, neuroangio. Venous access includes ultrasound approaches to all major veins including translumbar IVC. Catheter placement includes PICC's, Dialysis catheters, Ports, placement thru recanalized veins etc. Arterial includes diagnostic angio, PTA, stenting incl PTRAS, thrombolysis, embo etc. Neuro spine includes epidural steroids, SNRB, discography, vertebroplasty, myelography etc. Neuroangio includes diagnostic, carotid and vertebral stenting, aneurysm embo, AVM embo, stroke thrombolysis etc.

About the Author
Professor William George Davenport is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the Royal School of Mines, London. Prior to his academic career he worked with the Linde Division of Union Carbide in Tonawanda, New York. He spent a combined 43 years of teaching at McGill University and the University of Arizona.

His Union Carbide days are recounted in the book Iron Blast Furnace, Analysis, Control and Optimization (English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Spanish editions).

During the early years of his academic career he spent his summers working in many of Noranda Mines Company’s metallurgical plants, which led quickly to the book Extractive Metallurgy of Copper. This book has gone into five English language editions (with several printings) and Chinese, Farsi and Spanish language editions.

He also had the good fortune to work in Phelps Dodge’s Playas flash smelter soon after coming to the University of Arizona. This experience contributed to the book Flash Smelting, with two English language editions and a Russian language edition and eventually to the book Sulfuric Acid Manufacture (2006), 2nd edition 2013.

In 2013 co-authored Extractive Metallurgy of Nickel, Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals, which took him to all the continents except Antarctica.

He and four co-authors are just finishing up the book Rare Earths: Science, Technology, Production and Use, which has taken him around the United States, Canada and France, visiting rare earth mines, smelters, manufacturing plants, laboratories and recycling facilities.

Professor Davenport’s teaching has centered on ferrous and non-ferrous extractive metallurgy. He has visited (and continues to visit) about 10 metallurgical plants per year around the world to determine the relationships between theory and industrial practice. He has also taught plant design and economics throughout his career and has found this aspect of his work particularly rewarding. The delight of his life at the university has, however, always been academic advising of students on a one-on-one basis.

Professor Davenport is a Fellow (and life member) of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and a twenty-five year member of the (U.S.) Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration. He is recipient of the CIM Alcan Award, the TMS Extractive Metallurgy Lecture Award, the AusIMM Sir George Fisher Award, the AIME Mineral Industry Education Award, the American Mining Hall of Fame Medal of Merit and the SME Milton E. Wadsworth award. In September 2014 he will be honored by the Conference of Metallurgists’ Bill Davenport Honorary Symposium in Vancouver, British Columbia (his home town).

I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Davenport himself! Yes, I did! And, I have a picture to prove it! The book is fantastic! Awesome and easy to read! Very well-written! Thank you. I also know another author, Dr. Kathy Sole personally and I know how smart she is and what a great teacher she is. She conveys complex concepts in Hydrometallurgy, Electrometallurgy and Solven Extraction wonderfully well!

About the Author

Mark has over 25 years experience working in food policy at local, national and international levels. As Director of the University's Food Policy Unit, Mark's research grants and interests focus on the politics of food fortification, protecting food security in the context of environmental sustainability challenges and obesity prevention. Mark teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level in food policy, food regulation and professional competencies for public health nutrition and is the coordinator of the University's postgraduate public health nutrition programme. He is a regular presenter at national and international conferences and has published widely. Mark is a technical advisor to the World Health Organization, a Council Member of the World Public Health Nutrition Association, a member of Food Standards Australia New Zealand's Consumer and Public Health Dialogue and the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council's Dietary Guidelines Working Committee.

Makes the law clear but too much opinion shows through

Kindle: Works great for law books if you don't have an open book exam. Kindle software on Android, iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc), PC/Mac allows for reading on the go while you get to class... you know, *of course* only to "review" what you read a night or two before. :P

The Book itself: The law is presented clearly through nicely edited opinions of the judges in the biggest cases. Us students complain a fair amount (and usually validly) that the publishers make new editions with no new content just to scam you out of more of your student loans. However, in this case, the book has actually been updated with the latest case law (some 2011 cases in here). The only problem I have with the book (and what keeps it from being 5*) is that through VERY selectively showing dissenting opinions the author gives away his bias on the subject. A small gripe to be sure but we're in law school to learn the law as the legislature has written it and the courts have interpreted it, not to be given an opinion on whether the law is right or wrong.

Great book!!

I loved this book, and have read it three times. Claudia's aunt Peaches is having a baby! Claudia is overjoyed when her little cousin Lynn born. And even happier that she's her godmother! A little too happy actually...Claudia is over at her Aunt Peaches house way too much. She keeps bringing over gifts, telling her aunt how to raise Lynn, and breaking things. Finally, Aunt Peaches cannot take it any longer, and blows up at Claud. She implies that Claudia is rude, and pesty. Claudia cannot believe her ears, and gets very angry and doesn't come over or speak to Peaches. Meanwhile, Claud, Stacey, and Abby's social studies class are taking a trip to Philadelphia! There, she finally understands why Peaches was angry at her due to Claudia's own experience in Philly. This book was totally cool, you've got to read it!

Claudia and The Worlds Cutest Baby

I really enjoyed this book, although it is not my favourite BSC book.I liked the way Ann Martin made Claudia's personal experience reflect her family expierience. Claud eventually realizes thet the way she feel s about a girl in her class is the way her Aunt,Peaches,feels about claud. Not the best BSC book i have read but still very very good. You'd be mad not to read it!

This book inspires me most because when my aunt gave birth to my goddaughter, she nearly died. I nearly cried when I read the part when PeacHes gave birth to Lynn.

I gave this book a 5* because it's a great book and I think you should buy it!!
