About the Author

Jan Ledford’s first contact with the eyecare field occurred when she was about 7 years old. (We’ll admit that this took place before eye exams were mandatory for school children, but don’t tell Jan that we told you!) Her parents took her to an optometrist because her dad was very nearsighted. Sure enough, so was Jan. She remembers two things about that incident. First, the eye doctor was very nice because he had a great bag of goodies; if you were good, you could pick out several toys to take home. Second, once Jan got her glasses, she discovered that the trees had leaves and that the neighbors had a TV antenna on their roof.

About 2 years later, Jan got her first taste of the writer’s life. She decided to write a book (at age 10!) about a talking hamster. When Mrs. Clark, her teacher, found out about the book, she had Jan read each chapter to the class. After Jan finished, the class applauded. That’s all it took to make her love writing.

After entering the world of ophthalmic assisting in 1982, Jan advanced through the ranks until she earned her certification as an ophthalmic medical technologist. She brought with her not only a personal conviction about the importance of good vision, but an overwhelming desire to write. As of the printing of this second edition, she has 12 published books in the eyecare field.

Jan lives in Franklin, North Carolina, with her husband Jim, their youngest son (Collin, a college student and music major), and four cats (Munchkin, Boonie Rat, Angel, and Josey Dee). As a freelance medical writer and editor, she runs her own business called EyeWrite Productions. In addition to writing eyecare related material, she has branched into novels and short stories. Wonderful book

The book has exceeded all my expectations. I'm a retired USMC Officer with over 30+ years of service and my second career is with the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training as a senior instructor. My responsibilities include leadership and ethics training of police officers from first-line to Chief. The book "Morality Plays" fit my needs perfectly. Ethics like leadership cannot be taught, but it can be learned. The book has generated philosophical questions and has caused people to search within themselves and understand their core values, thus make better ethical decisions. Well done Jessica.

very valuable yet not overwhelming

olivia shupe gave such helpful information with great encouragement on parenting well, yet without any sense of overload. i prefer not to read very many parenting books because i am one of those parents already overly conscious of doing everything well to parent my children's hearts. so many times, i just feel guilt of any thing i am not doing, do too much of, or do incorrectly. with olivia's book, i was so encouraged and exhorted without the usual uneasiness. i LOVED it. from the training on the intelligences, to the many life stories, to the sense of empowerment to do well as a parent. it was very helpful. i am still quoting it to friends. thanks olivia!

Are you parenting for Character or for Comfort?

I must admit that it is tempting to be lazy and selfish in my parenting. I can help my children determine WHO they are and WHOSE they are, or I can let the world tell them. Olivia's book has inspired me to step up and prepare my 5 children to THRIVE and not just survive. I long to be intentional ALL the time, however, sometimes I need to be encouraged and reminded of how important and influential my role is as a mother. Renaissance Kids has motivated me to re-think what we are doing as a family. I desire to raise children who are leaders. This will not happen by default. Olivia has challenged me to parent with excellence, bathed in relationship, in an atmosphere of grace. I highly recommend not only reading this book along with your husband, but even more so, to grab several other couples to absorb this material together. We must stay connected in community as we spur one another on in this amazing adventure called parenting!

Super Information, Super Format

Perspective!!! Renaissance Kids is NOT the "how to" parenting book I thought it might be although it has plenty of practical advice. I am more than refreshed with Olivia Shupe's offer of perspective; I am stirred to open my home and invite other parents to gather, discuss, and get rejunivnated to parent a world-changing generation. RK presents information and then questions at the end of each chapter that provide the basis for some lively discussion and hopeful insight in order to get back on track with perhaps the highest calling we have: effective parenting of champions and enjoying it!!!

About the Author
Howard Crowhurst went to school in the North of England but has been living in Carnac in France for over 25 years. He has written three books about megalithic architecture, one novel and also a play about 2012 which takes place in the International Space Station. His work on the megalithic period, and particularly Carnac in France, has been internationally recognized as being a major breakthrough in understanding the history of human intelligence. Brings the Nebra Sky Disc out of the slush pile of history, and makes it's purpose understandable.

Serious material on this particular find is hard to discover, offhanded, incomplete, and largely ignored by an accademic community bound up in republishing old and incomplete theories.

Crowhurst has taken the time and academic rigour to examine this disc, and relate it to the surrounding three countries which contributed to its construction. He evaluates the star positions in relation to the time of the disc's creation. Though his theories include a lot of math, its pretty simply put, and not beyond basic geometry.

The writing is easy to follow even thought the material is complex. If you are interested in Megaliths and Ancient interpretations of sacred places this is a must read.
